Review: Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

Title: Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles #1)
Authors: Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
Pages: 563 pages
Publisher: Little Brown and Company
Published on: December 1st' 2009
Buy the book: Amazon / Barnes and Noble

There were no surprises in Gatlin County.
We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere.

At least, that's what I thought.
Turns out, I couldn't have been more wrong.
There was a curse.
There was a girl.
And in the end, there was a grave.

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

Review:

Beautiful Creatures is a very unique and wonderful story. The story is quite long but not with the reason to make it long but to vividly show you what is really happening. Though, I found some parts quite boring I still enjoyed this book (but not as much as my mother did.) Beautiful Creatures was beautifully written and never missed a beat. The Southern atmosphere is very different from most of the books I have read since most of them are set in the city. I have never heard of Casters until I read this book and I must say, they made some wicked-awesome powers. I have read at least one book written by two people and Beautiful Creatures wasn't disorganized like the one I read, Beautiful Creatures was very well put together and had a really unique quality to the story. The fact that two people were able to clash their ideas together is amazing! Brava!

Review: Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

Title: Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy #1)
Auhor: Kiersten White
Pages: 335 pages
Publisher: August 31st' 2010
Published on: HarperTeen
Buy the book: Amazon / Barnes and Noble

Evie's always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she's falling for a shape-shifter, and she's the only person who can see through paranormals' glamours.

But Evie's about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.

So much for normal.
(Summary from Goodreads)

Review:

I loved Paranormalcy! I found Paranormalcy as a fresh new YA novel that teens would enjoy! The concept of Paranormalcy is very unique and wonderful. Evie is a very stong and independent heroine. I love how she stands alone and doesn’t need a second voice guiding her. As you read this book you can’t help but think up a vivid image of the paranormal world. I’ve had my share of paranormal novels but this book has to be at the top of my list, it was written spectacularly. I especially loved, Kiersten’s witty sense of humor and her ability to make a person relate with her characters. I found this novel as fun, enjoyable and PINK! All I have to say is that I BLEEPING LOVED IT AND THAT I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK: SUPERNATURALLY!

Book Blogger Hop: September 24-27

Another week of the Book Blogger Hop! Yay! :) Haven't pressured Geraldine into doing it yet... I have feeling this is how our conversation will go:

Me: Geraldine, can you do our Book Blogger Hop this week?

Her: No. You do it.

Me: Please? *puppy dog eyes*

Her: That doesn't work on me. And you look like a retard.

Me: You suck.

Her: Whatever. *rolls her eyes and leaves*

(*End of conversation*)

In the end I get stuck with doing everything. Dude, you're missing out on the fun! *smug smile*
Anyhoo, back to the Hop! :)

Q: When you write reviews, do you write them as you are reading or wait until you have read the entire book?

A: I do both. Sometimes I write a draft for the review as I read the book so I would remember what I thought of it but if the book has a strong impact to me I write the review after. But if I feel really lazy, I I write the review and have my sister type it for me.

Review: I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have To Kill You by Ally Carter

Title: I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You (Gallagher Girls #1)
Author: Ally Carter
Pages: 284 pages
Publisher: Hyperion
Published on: April 24th' 2006
Buy the book: Amazon / Barnes and Noble

Cammie Morgan is a student at the Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women, a fairly typical all-girls school-that is, if every school taught advanced martial arts in PE and the latest in chemical warfare in science, and students received extra credit for breaking CIA codes in computer class. The Gallagher Academy might claim to be a school for geniuses but it's really a school for spies. Even though Cammie is fluent in fourteen languages and capable of killing a man in seven different ways, she has no idea what to do when she meets an ordinary boy who thinks she's an ordinary girl. Sure, she can tap his phone, hack into his computer, or track him through town with the skill of a real "pavement artist"-but can she maneuver a relationship with someone who can never know the truth about her?

Cammie Morgan may be an elite spy-in-training, but in her sophomore year, she's on her most dangerous mission-falling in love.

Review:

I think this book is amazing. The title maybe a little violent but trust me, there is absolutely nothing violent about this great book. The story is a good combination of romance and action suitable enough for young readers. I love how she is really asking the help of her friend because she is totally clueless on things outside the academy. This book is the kind of book which makes you linger in a page for a long time, making you absorb everything you are reading. The book itself is exciting and leaves you at the edges of your seats and when you think you're on the right track, you turn for a very unexpected twist. This is not a very predictable book and I find that most exciting in books. I recommend this book for girls who are looking for a good laugh and a bit of romance in life. This book is absolutely kid-friendly and does not have too much big words so you can easily understand what you are reading and what's going on in the story. This book is generally for 10-12 year olds but everyone can enjoy this superb bestseller.

Review:

I first saw my classmate, Lillian reading this book. It looked interesting so I asked her if I could read the back cover. I was literally rushing to buy the book. I bought the book a day after. When I started reading it, I couldn't stop! I went waaaaaay past 1 a.m. just to finish it. I'm a sucker for mystery-romance and most books don't fall under that category, so when I find one, I am very happy to read it. The book was fast-paced and exhilarating. There was this wonderful mix of action, mystery, drama and love. The one thing I loved about this book is that it's very realistic. It's not some kind of far-away fantasy in which you only get to read in books. (Although I am a HUGE fan of City of Bones trilogy) Camelia, the girl was very interesting. There were some parts of the book which in it was printed in a messy handwriting. At first, I really thought it was Ben but at the latter part, it started saying bad things about her, so I got really, really confused. But it turns out, there was this "other" guy who had a really big stalker-crush on Camelia who tried to kidnap her and well, yeah he kind of succeeded but was later on saved. This book was strong and full action and romance. I really liked Camelia for not letting the other people ruin her feelings for Ben just because there was a really bad rumor about him. Stolarz has this knack for writing mystical and magical and mysterious books and I love it!

In Which I Blog About Unicorns (and possibly Dora the Explorer)

Yes, as you can see I'm blogging about Unicorns! Heehee I love them and I absolutely can't wait for Holly Black's Zombie VS Unicorns! Of course I'm Team Unicorn but Keila is Team Zombie. Such conflict, so when I finally get myself a copy when it releases Geraldine and I will have a very, very heated debate (Which we have everyday.)
Off to Unicorns, I have always obsessed myself with them, I sometimes find myself dreaming about me riding a pretty pink Unicorn with a golden horn! But it just so happens that Dora the Explorer had already stolen my dream and rode on a Unicorn! I was so depressed and I still like watching Dora and screaming out the answers. Great job Dora, you just lost a watcher!
I've always wanted a Unicorn. More than an alcoholic wants a bottle of Jack Daniels, more than Berby's obsession for karate boys, MORE THAN GERALDINE WANTS A BOYFRIEND! Whoops! I accidentally turned my Caps Lock on! Clumsy me! :)) But seriously I really want a Unicorn! I'll hug anyone who finds me a lavender one with a cookie tattoo on it's butt! :)
Unicorns! Unicorns! Unicorns!
I was once with my dad talking about my future and he said that I had to learn how to properly speak Mandarin for a better future and I said, "But daddy, I want a Unicorn!" And here's what he replied, "What are you going to do with them? Can you make a Unicorn farm?" Ahh, I love my dad! <3 br="br">I still also love Unicorns! :)

Here's the list of things I love:
1) God
2) Parents
3) Berby and Geraldine
4) Books
5) Unicorns
6) Little Sister
7) Friends
8) Blogger Friends
9) Lily Paloma and Samantha Jones (My dogs, though I think Lily hates me... Dunno! :D)
10) Hugs and cookies

Yes, those are the people/things that make me happy! :)
Well, I am now going to do my temporary stitches for my cheerdance shirt. Sooo bye! :)

What will I blog about next?

P.S. Agnes, Despicable Me character, is an exception to the Unicorn rule because she's a cute, innocent little girl who deserves a cute Unicorn! :)

But his facade starts to crumble when he finds himself sleepwalking, propelled into the night by terrifying dreams about a white cat that wants to tell him something. He's noticing other disturbing things too, including the strange behavior of his two brothers. They are keeping secrets from him. As Cassel begins to suspect he's part of a huge con game, he must unravel his past and his memories. To find out the truth, Cassel will have to out-con the conmen.

Review:

I found this book very exciting and intoxicating. Holly Black takes you to a world filled with lies and deceit. As you read this book through Cassel Sharpe's eyes you can't help but imagine what it would be like to experience a real blowback. When I read this book I couldn't but feel like it was somewhat the same as Ally Carter's Heist Society. When I read this I couldn't help but imagine my father as a yakuza (he has at least 9 tattoos all over his body and he also has piercings.) White Cat is an awesome read that would leave you begging for more! And I just love love love the cover! Heehee, the guy is hot~ Cannot wait for Red Glove.

Review:

I was never really a fan of sci-fi novels but this book is really something. As you read this book you can't help but to imagine such vivid images. I absolutely loved this book I found it very interesting and unique. The romance is very, very sweet and romantic! John Smith a.k.a Number Four, is just a normal boy trying to fit in. As he narrates the story you can't help but think how human he really is, how human he acts. He's a really sweet guy and being one of the last survivors makes his life a huge wreck and I felt really bad for him. But he's a great guy! Sarah Hart, in the book she's described as beautiful and has a camera with her. Sarah is a good-natured girl and I really like the romance between John and her. It was really nice that even though he is an alien she still loves him. Their love knows no bounds. It was an amazing read, filled with excitement and action. It was a beautifully crafted novel that was an easy read and I enjoyed it a lot. I sooo can't wait for the movie to come out! The cast looks awesome!

Review:

I've always been a huge fan of Ms. Cassidy, I especially liked her Accidental Friends series. Whenever I read Ms. Cassidy's book I can't help but laugh out loud, for me her books are the perfect Romance novel. :) It has Romance (of course), Some ass-kicking action and most importantly SCORCHING HOT MEN! You Dropped A Blonde On Me is a very sweet novel and I found it quite sad... I cried, a lot.
Max Henderson is a very admirable woman because even though she didn't have any money, she still wanted to raise her child and wanted what was best for him. She is a mother that would do anything to care for her child. She is an amazing mother. :)
Campbell Barker he's hot and I kind of new he was hiding something. I melted inside when he stood up for her when Finley came. Campbell is a very sweet guy and he isn't too nice nor is he too bad, just perfect. Out of all Ms. Cassidy's male characters he has to be my most favorite. (Next is Greg *giggle*)
I really grew fond of the old people at the Leisure Village, they are super fun and adorable. Especially Max's mom, Mona.
All in all this is a fun and romantic read that brought me to tears. It was really great and not only does it have a hot man it has TWO! (Booyah!)
I really recommend this book to those Romantics out there.

Review:

I guess I'm kind of late with this book. At first when I would see this book at my local bookstores I would just walk passed it and think, "Who would write a zombie book?" I guess, to me writing a zombie novel was an absurd idea. But when I finally budged and took Andye's (Reading Teen) advice and bought the book...
I guess I proved myself wrong. This book freaked me out. A lot. It has the ultimate scare factor. BUT I enjoyed it. A lot. The way Carrie Ryan tells the story through Mary's eyes and the way she describes the Unconsecrated, it's very spine-chilling. As I was reading this book I couldn't help but sympathize with Mary when she had to make her decision. Though, I found Mary quite self-centered when it came to Travis and Harry. The way she thought that Travis belonged to her and was quite inconsiderate with the feelings of both Cass and Harry. So one day as I was waking up I decided to stop procrastinating and try finishing the book. Though, I found the starting quite long and quite boring, I really enjoyed it. I couldn't help myself... I ended up crying my eyes out as it ended. As soon as I finished it, I went to a bookstore with my mom and bought its sequel; The Dead-Tossed Waves. (I can't wait to finish it!)
This is an amazing book (it hit my emotional spot) and I have to say it won't disappoint. Great job, Ms. Carrie Ryan! Take some time and check the book out!
