When Drake started the night at his father’s campaign fundraiser, he never imagined he’d end it being conned into buying drugs on the West Side. Losing high-stakes poker has its consequences, but he’d repeatedly face them just to hear Lacey Douglas sing. Drake sees Lacey light up the stage, and he has to have her. But his intentions for being on her side of town turn out to be the reason he can’t.

Chicago native Lacey has dreams of the opera, but life has its obstacles. Lacey has come to know her hardships as part of living in the real world and accepts them fully. When Lacey meets the intense and invigorating Drake, a fire is lit inside her, unleashing those dreams again.

Two paths that should have never crossed prove to create the exact pairing the other needs. But when their worlds take time to catch up, everything they have is tested. Finding the space between the two sides that challenge them will be hard, but it’s the only place that will keep them together.

The Space Between is a new adult contemporary romance.

Review:

While I was reading this book, I actually found myself wondering what the title meant. The Space Between gave off such a Paranormal vibe that I thought it would be, but I was wrong. It's really just a sweet but melancholic novel filled with such powerful characters. I really enjoyed this The Space Between.

I found myself getting turned off during the first few pages of this book because Drake was kind of a douche but as it went on, The Space Between started to grow on me. As I read on, I realized how interesting its characters really were.

Even though Drake seemed kind of obnoxious during the first few pages, he's actually a really caring person. There may be parts that he will seem a bit douche-y but he'll really grow on you. Drake is actually the adopted son of Senator Drake (they both have the same name,) and he's always had a strained relationship with him and it's because of this that Drake has a rebellious streak. But I guess his mother makes up for it? His family is kind of messed up and the only other normal and likable person is his sister, Adele. While he may have a weird, stand-offish relationship with his dad, Adele has the opposite. Their father has always favored her most likely because she's his real child and Senator Drake is a bit of a racist (Drake's of Asian descent but so, so yummy.) I'm actually amazed that Drake grew up to be a pretty outstanding young man who isn't afraid to stand up for what he believes in. And he certainly didn't back down when his love was threatened but when it was tested, I can't say so much...

I really liked Lacey. Not only does she have an amazing voice but she's such a strong girl. She doesn't ask for help unless she needs it because she's so independent. And the fact that she's the only person taking care of her mama who has cancer is so inspiring. Her love for her mother is what drove her to look for a job and give-up her dreams. The things she was willing to sacrifice for love was so heart-wrenching.

The Space Between isn't just your average Contemporary novel. It's more than sweet, stolen moments. It's a book that shows us that even if you're part of two different worlds, that shouldn't stop you from falling in love. Drake and Lacey's relationship certainly wasn't an easy one but they managed to make it work because of their trust for each other. Even though there were meddling parents trying to prevent them from being together, they still overcame that in the end. I adored this book and I can't wait to read more!
