Aiden Grant has a killer kiss.  Literally. And it’s not every reaper who gets to work with the Sixteenth President. Sure, Honest Abe likes to throw out history lessons with reaping assignments, but when you’re favored by the ancients, grim reaper life is pretty sweet for a newly dead seventeen-year-old.

Then things get messy.

Aiden is assigned to reap the soul of Bee, the only girl he has ever loved. When Aiden’s kiss of death fails, intertwining their souls, she is still very much alive and they are both in trouble. The ancients want Bee, who has special powers of her own, and they’ll do anything to get her.

Some rules are meant to be broken, even if that means Aiden must bargain with his own soul to save Bee. Who knew the afterlife could get so complicated?

Review:

This book left me a whole lot of confused. I'm honestly not sure if I hated or liked this book but I'm definitely sure that I don't love it. There's just too many parts that didn't appeal to me and I definitely didn't get the whole vibe of the story.

First let's start off with Aiden. I despised him during the first few chapters becaus he was a grade A douche. But as the story went on, you'll see a deeper side to him. His life (or afterlife?) has been riddled by tragedy thus preventing him from passing on. And this is where it gets interesting, the person who reaped him was none other than Honest Abe. After all that stuff happened, dying and getting reaped, Aiden ended up becoming a Grim Reaper because of the fact that he still couldn't move one. He had a lot of regrets and you can't pass on that way. So now he's stuck reaping souls and getting History tests from a dead President. Oh, joy. But something super shocking happens, he's tasked to reap the only girl he's ever loved's soul. Though Aiden tries to make it easier for Bee by taking her soul while she's sleeping, it doesn't go as planned. Bee ends up taking a part of Aiden's soul and vice versa. I didn't know that Grim Reapers had souls, but moving on... Now everyone is wondering how Bee can see the Grim Reapers and that's apparently her special "talent". And because of her special talent, a bunch of evil Ancient Grim Reapers want to eat her. And thus begins their journey...

The story is easy enough to follow but I just didn't connect with it. While some readers may like Bee's vivaciousness, I found her a tad bit annoying. She was a real bitch to Aiden and I don't say that lightly. She started off hating him and then as soon as she finds out who he actually is, she starts being cool and happy. I think the only time I started liking her was near the end. And I liked some of her scenes with her brother, Jaleb. They were honestly heartwarming.

There parts where I wanted more explanations to the Grim Reaper mythology, whether they kep their faces or their appearances, or if they champnged completely. And what are the standards to a Grim Reaper? And I just have to say that the ending was very predictable. I saw it coming as soon as Bee was mentioned. Maybe is Ms. Kerri had the gone the other way, I would have been shocked. But I will admit that it did help the story and it left me wondering if there would be a Book 2. One of the things I did enjoy about this book was Honest Abe and Aiden's relationship. He was like a father to Aiden and not just a mentor and I loved that. They had their moments and it cute that Aiden referred to him as "Top Hat". Their dialogues make me smile.

I really don't know if I would recommend this to people because it left me very conflicted but I feel like there may actually be people who will enjoy this book. I can't say that this was a bad book because it wasn't but it just needed a bit more "oomph" to it. Deadly Kisses IS a very entertaining read though. There was a mix of romance/action/drama and comedy that did add to its appeal. I just wish that I had enjoyed this more.
