Waiting on Wednesday (36)

Waiting on Wednesday/s are hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine in which you choose a book or books that you're excited and waiting for.
This week's Waiting on Wednesday book is:
Title: The Lost Sun (The United States of Asgard #1)
Author: Tessa Gratton
Publisher: Randome House Books for Young Readers
Publication date: June 25th 2013
Pre-order the book: Amazon / Barnes and Noble

Fans of Neil Gaiman's American Gods and Holly Black's The Curse Workers will embrace this richly drawn, Norse-mythology-infused alternate world: the United States of Asgard.

Seventeen-year-old Soren Bearskin is trying to escape the past. His father, a famed warrior, lost himself to the battle-frenzy and killed thirteen innocent people. Soren cannot deny that berserking is in his blood--the fevers, insomnia, and occasional feelings of uncontrollable rage haunt him. So he tries to remain calm and detached from everyone at Sanctus Sigurd's Academy. But that's hard to do when a popular, beautiful girl like Astrid Glyn tells Soren she dreams of him. That's not all Astrid dreams of--the daughter of a renowned prophetess, Astrid is coming into her own inherited abilities.

When Baldur, son of Odin and one of the most popular gods in the country, goes missing, Astrid sees where he is and convinces Soren to join her on a road trip that will take them to find not only a lost god, but also who they are beyond the legacy of their parents and everything they've been told they have to be.

  3. I'm ususally a fan of Norse mythology as well, but this academy setting... It feels a little staged, just from the summary. It could totally rock in the end, but I'll keep an eye out for reviews first. Thanks for spotlighting it, though. =)

    1. I usually read reviews first before I try a book I'm a bit iffy about so that I get a feel as to what others think about it, so I totally understand where you're coming from. :) Not every book will appeal to the general population.

  4. I love Greek mythology, and I like Roman okay, but I'm not sure about Norse. It seems really intersting, though. Thanks for sharing! :D

  5. I think that as long as a book contains ANY type of mythology I am sold. More books need to incorporate mythology! But, that cover and synopsis though. Did not know about this book before so thanks for sharing! :)

    1. I AGREE. I'm pretty much down with anything related to mythological creatures.

  10. It does seem very interesting, doesn't it? It's not everyday that you read about a novel revolving around Norse mythology.
