Feature and Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read! :)
Q: What is the BIGGEST word you've seen used in a book lately -
that made you stop and look it up? Might as well leave the definition
& book too.
A: Nothing really but I just learned what "quickening" means! (from The Game of Thrones. :))
I couldn't remember the last time I had to use a dictionary. Guess I've been reading for a long time!

Hopping through. I think I know what quickening means from reading old books.

That's one that definitely depends on the context! And I love the Game of Thrones - it was my answer to last week's hop. My FF.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading (and really enjoying) Year of Wonders: A Novel of the Plague by Geraldine Brooks right now and have encountered a few unfamiliar words. One that comes to mind at the moment is not a big word, but one I'd never seen before, so I looked it up just the other day: "posset"=(noun) a drink made of hot milk curdled with ale, wine, or the like, often sweetened and spiced.
ReplyDeleteI learned quickening from The Games of Thrones too and somewhere else too I just can't remember.
