This week's Waiting on Wednesday book is:
Title: Dualed (Dualed #1)
Author: Elsie Chapman
Publisher: Random House Books for Young Readers
Publication date: February 26th 2013
Pre-order the book: Amazon / Barnes and Noble

You or your Alt? Only one will survive.

The city of Kersh is a safe haven, but the price of safety is high. Everyone has a genetic Alternate—a twin raised by another family—and citizens must prove their worth by eliminating their Alts before their twentieth birthday. Survival means advanced schooling, a good job, marriage—life.

Fifteen-year-old West Grayer has trained as a fighter, preparing for the day when her assignment arrives and she will have one month to hunt down and kill her Alt. But then a tragic misstep shakes West’s confidence. Stricken with grief and guilt, she’s no longer certain that she’s the best version of herself, the version worthy of a future. If she is to have any chance of winning, she must stop running not only from her Alt, but also from love . . . though both have the power to destroy her.

Elsie Chapman's suspenseful YA debut weaves unexpected romance into a novel full of fast-paced action and thought-provoking philosophy. When the story ends, discussions will begin about this future society where every adult is a murderer and every child knows there is another out there who just might be better.

Why I'm super excited for this book:
I absolutely love the concept of Dualed. The very idea of having a twin that you're meant to kill just gives me the shivers! It's very interesting and quite frankly, badass. I'm just dying to read Dualed! (I'm actually thinking of recommending this book to a set of twins that I know... Haha!) And also...

Good job, Elsie!!
You're welcome. ;)

Review: Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don't kill him first, that is.

Review:

I'll admit that I was quite hesitant to read Obsidian at first. It wasn't that I didn't think it had a good story or anything, it was more of the fact that I was instantly turned off by Daemon's supreme douchiness. Even though people believe that women go for those types of guys, it's not always true and it's never cool to be rude to a girl no matter how much you think that she's asking for it. Though I was constantly reassured by my friends (and mom) that he had his reasons to be an asshole, I still couldn't push through with it. But after continuous stalling, I finally read it and I was... dazzled.

What really enticed me about this book is Katy's ingenuity and wit. She's basically this intelligent girl that some people may underestimate for being a petty human, but there's really more to her than that and trust me, she is anything but petty. She stands up for herself and tells those people who try to belittle her to go screw themselves. I especially love her dialogues with Daemon, they will keep you laughing out loud and fanning yourself 'cuz they do get Hot with a capital H. And awesomely enough, Katy's a book blogger! Whoot! (Bloggers Represent! Haha!)

Oh, Daemon. I want to love you and punch you at the same time. Jennifer Armentrout manages to make a love interest so swoon-worthy and hate-worthy at the same time. Though at first I did get turned off by his cockiness, it did grow on me after I realized why he did it in the first place. It was honestly quite sweet. Daemon is the type of guy who has"two-sides"; the one he shows Katy and the one he shows to the world. Guess which one I like the most? *wink* He can be really sympathetic and smug at the same time (it's a talent, I guess.) But you'll really see how much he cares for Katy throughout it all and that's what really matters, that he actually cares.

This book may be the most sexually frustrated book I have ever read. It just brims and radiates sexual frustration. There were literally times in the book where I just wanted to smack the characters upside the head and tell them to just hook up already! If this book was a real person, he'd need a lot of cold showers. A lot.

I will admit that I did kind of get the I am Number Four vibes from Obsidian but after reading it, I realized that it was way, way better than I am Number Four. The characters weren't dull, the aliens actually had super badass powers and you have this delicious love/hate relationship. I never thought that I'd love aliens so much!

If you want a book with an insanely strong and fierce heroine, some really steamy romance, and lots of lots laugh, you'll want to read this! Jennifer Armentrout creates yet another enthralling series that will capture your attention from the very first page. In an ere filled with vampires and werewolves, aliens are an intriguing and unique contribution to the Paranormal world. You'll love every second of it!

Review: From Bad To Cursed by Katie Alender

Title: From Bad to Cursed (Bad Girls Don't Die #2)
Author: Katie Alender
Pages: 442 pages
Pulisher: Hyperion
Published on: June 14th 2011
Source: Bought
Buy the book: Amazon / Barnes and Noble

Alexis is the last girl you'd expect to sell her soul. She already has everything she needs--an adorable boyfriend, the perfect best friend, and a little sister who's finally recovering after being possessed by an evil spirit, then institutionalized.

Alexis is thrilled when her sister joins a club; new friends are just what Kasey needs. It's strange, though, to see how fast the girls in The Sunshine Club go from dorky and antisocial to gorgeous and popular. Soon Alexis learns that the girls have pledged an oath to a seemingly benevolent spirit named Aralt. Worried that Kasey's in over her head again, Alexis and her best friend Megan decide to investigate by joining the club themselves. At first, their connection with Aralt seems harmless. Alexis trades in her pink hair and punky clothes for a mainstream look, and quickly finds herself reveling in her newfound elegance and success.

Instead of fighting off the supernatural, Alexis can hardly remember why she joined in the first place. Surely it wasn't to destroy Aralt...why would she hurt someone who has given her so much, and asked for so little in return?

Review:

I know this book came out AGES ago but the third one just came out last July, if I'm not mistaken and I've been trying to get my hands on it ever since, but our local bookstore hasn't contacted me yet for the reservation I made three times. :( I hardly see Ms. Alender's books in the bookstore anymore. If my memory doesn't fail me, I believe I discovered Bad Girls Don't Die in one of out thrift book shops (yes, I shop there. So much hidden works!) I was really intrigued and there came my paranormal fetish. Haha, just kidding. But yeah. I would really love to see more books out here. Especially Hyperion and Penguin. *sigh* But anyway, back to the story. :D

Though it wasn't as spine-tingling as Bad Girls Don't Die (which left me wide awake at 3AM and me basically donating my doll collection. Eeep.) It still had its fair share of paranormal goodness. It amazes me how ghost-prone this family is. Haha! But when you link it to reality, it's not that far off. I'm a stickler for details. Like how her sister really got in this mess without her intention to and how she was beggining to get sucked in this whole Sunshine club. I loved how it had twists and turns, every special surprise really... surprising. Haha! I loved the main focus of this book is in the ghosts and evil forces and not on the mushy romance. I mean, if I wanted a love story, I would have gotten Colasanti or Dessen or something. But I still do appreciate the twinge of romance. And it's not the overly mushy, why-does-this-go-in-here type. It's the appropriate sweetness for a paranormal book. I love how Alexis really just try to stay away from these things since it's kinda a given that her sister Kasey is on the evils spirits' Gullible Girls list. This is really such a simple, easy to understand book. None of those unimportant fringe unlike some books to make the story interesting. Every chapter gets you closer to finding out new things and rest assured, you'll feel the chill and tingle until the very last page.

Enjoy reading, my loves!
